Um fyrirlesturinn
Moving from Higa Susumu’s Okinawa, the talk will explore the critical issues raised in this poignant and historically accurate manga: the Pacific War and its memory; the US military presence on the islands of the Ryūkyū archipelago after 1945; the difficult relationship between Okinawan civilians and US/Japanese soldiers; Okinawa’s cultural otherness; its natural beauty, prey to occupations and intensive exploitation for military purposes.
